Pizza! Pizza!

Today we had the incredible opportunity to spend the day making pizzas with the awesome kids at Kamalii Elementary School.

In March we became a primary sponsor of Kamaliʻi school's garden, so we were beyond excited yesterday for the opportunity not only to see the garden but to help aid in the school's garden program objectives. At each year's end, the school hosts harvest parties featuring local chefs allowing each grade to connect the relationship between fresh garden fruits and vegetables to the students' favorite foods. Our Executive Chef Chris Kulis was more than happy to spend the day teaching kids how to make pizzas utilizing the fresh grown vegetables.

While they enjoyed their colorful pies cooked by Outrigger Pizza's mobile pizza oven, our Community Engagement Manager Leahi Hall taught the kids the origins and meaning of the word 'aina and how it relates to the process of growing and eating food.

We are proud and excited to continue our relationship with Grow Some Good and Kamalii School. We are already thinking of ideas for the next harvest party -- tacos anyone? Below are more photos of our fun day with the keiki!

Grow Some Good is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating hands-on, outdoor learning experiences that cultivate curiosity about natural life cycles, connect students to their food sources, and inspire better nutrition choices. In addition to helping establish food gardens and living science labs in local schools, we provide resources and curriculum support through community partnerships in agriculture, science, food education and nutrition.
