Makena hosts 2nd Round of MIL Individual Golf Championship

On Saturday, April 8th, we were proud to welcome high schoolers from all over Maui to Makena for the 2nd round of the Maui Interscholastic League Individual Golf Championship. This program is part of our continued commitment to supporting Maui youth programs. We are also excited to announce that this MIL event will be hosted at Makena biennially.

“Ike aku, ike mai. Kokua aku, kokua mai. Pela ka nohona ohana

Imua a kii ka lei o ka lankila!

Watch, observe. Help others and accept help. That is the family way

Go forward and win the lei of victory.

The Makena team is excited to recognize the Maui student-athletes who have committed themselves to excellence in the classroom and out on the range. Supporting local youth programs is so important to us, and we are thrilled to endorse the timeless transmission of learning from one generation to the next, whether in the familial, classroom or athletic setting,” says Leahi Hall, Community Engagement Manager.

A challenging course, the Makena Golf Course is a 7,051 yard, par 72 golf course. Originally designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., the course underwent renovation in early 2013 with a completed redesign by Dennis Wise in late 2015. The golf course traverses the rugged backcountry along the leeward slopes of Mt. Haleakala to an elevation of 450 ft. above sea level at holes 11 and 12 and then descends over 400 ft. in height make it Maui’s most coveted sea to mountain golf course experiences. As part of MIL rules, all players were required to walk and carry their own golf bags throughout the course. To ensure that the golfers were able to handle the course’s steep incline and decline, all the high school teams were also able to tour and practice the course weeks before Saturday’s event.

We thank the Maui Interscholastic League for considering us to host their tournament and to all the players and families who made Saturday's event such a joyful occasion for our Makena ohana!
