Mākena: A place of abundance.

The word Makena has various meanings, with the Kahako or macron above the first “a” it means many or numerous. We like to think of Mākena, the place, as an area where many gather. A place where the many generations before us were provided with an abundance of food, shelter and spiritual enrichment. Our hope is that it continues as a place of abundance -- a place where families and friends can gather in a renewed Mākena community. As we move forward, we want to share in the responsibility of defining what this area means to us and the larger Hawaii community. What does Mākena, the place, mean to you? What do you hope it will mean?
